AMS 6930 covers Ti-6Al-4V (6Al-4V, Grade 5) supplied in the solution heat treated and aged (STA) condition as round, hex, and square bars, rectangular bar, forgings, and forging stock. Typical size coverage includes bars up to 3.000 in (least distance between parallel sides) and rectangular/forging thickness up to 4.000 in, with forging stock at any size. In short: high strength-to-weight titanium built for aerospace, medical, marine, and high-performance industrial parts.
Note: some buyers informally write “arm6930”—the correct designation is AMS 6930.
High specific strength (STA) → optimized tensile/yield for weight-critical designs
Excellent corrosion resistance → suitable for marine and chemically aggressive environments
Biocompatibility → used for medical components when the print calls Ti-6Al-4V
Reliable processing routes → bars, close-tolerance forgings, and ring/rotor preforms reduce machining time
Round / Hex / Square Bars: up to 3.000 in (inclusive)
Rectangular Bar & Forgings: thickness up to 4.000 in (inclusive)
Forging Stock: any size (per PO)

| Element | Nominal Limit |
|---|---|
| Aluminum (Al) | 5.5–6.75% |
| Vanadium (V) | 3.5–4.5% |
| Iron (Fe) | ≤ 0.30% |
| Oxygen (O) | ≤ 0.20% |
| Carbon (C) | ≤ 0.08% |
| Nitrogen (N) | ≤ 0.05% |
| Hydrogen (H) | Typically ≤ 0.0125% |
| Yttrium (Y) | ≤ 0.005% |
| Titanium (Ti) | Balance |
Purchase order governs final limits; values above are typical ranges.
Ultimate Tensile Strength: ~140–165 ksi (smallest sections at the top of the range)
0.2% Yield Strength: ~130–155 ksi
Elongation: ~8–10% (section-dependent)
Reduction of Area: ~15–25%
Properties vary with size/orientation and processing—use supplied MTRs for design.
Aerospace: structural members, actuators, fasteners, rings/rotors, landing-system components
Medical: implant hardware & instrument components (when specified)
Marine & Offshore: lightweight, corrosion-resistant fittings and housings
Motorsport / Industrial: high-load, temperature-capable drivetrain and suspension parts
| Spec | Alloy / Condition | Common Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| AMS 6930 | Ti-6Al-4V, STA; bars, rectangular bar, forgings, forging stock | Choose when finished-part strength must be maximized out of the box |
| AMS 6931 | Ti-6Al-4V (STA); rings & heavy sections (alternate product route) | Similar strength goal; check print for ring/section requirements |
| AMS 4928 | Ti-6Al-4V, annealed; bars, wire, forgings, rings | Better for machining/forming pre-heat-treat; baseline stock |
Rule of thumb: Use AMS 6930 where the spec calls STA and immediate high strength; use AMS 4928 when you’ll form/machine first.
Chemistry and microstructure conformance
Tensile testing by orientation / section
Surface contamination controls for titanium handling
Optional fracture toughness and NDT (e.g., UT to AMS 2631) when specified
Welding: TIG/EB in high-purity shielding; control oxygen pickup and interpass temperatures
Machining: sharp tooling, high coolant flow; manage heat/work-hardening similar to austenitic stainless
Forging/Forming: maintain alpha-beta control and apply post-process heat treatment per traveler
