AMS 4900 covers commercially pure Grade 3 titanium supplied in sheet and strip form in the annealed condition. Known for its excellent corrosion resistance, high strength-to-weight ratio, and superior performance in oxidizing and chloride environments, AMS 4900 is widely used across aerospace, chemical, marine, and medical sectors. It offers the highest allowable design stresses among all CP titanium grades (Grade 1–4), making it ideal for moderate-strength structural and corrosive applications.
AMS 4900 defines titanium Grade 3 sheet and strip that has been annealed for improved toughness, formability, and structural reliability. Grade 3 is stronger than Grade 1 and Grade 2 while retaining good ductility and weldability. Its corrosion behavior is comparable to other commercially pure grades, making it a reliable choice for components exposed to seawater, chemicals, and atmospheric conditions.
Alloy: CP Titanium Grade 3
UNS: R50550
Specification: AMS 4900
Condition: Annealed
Forms: Sheet and Strip
Category: Commercially Pure Titanium (Unalloyed)
Higher strength than CP Grades 1 and 2
Excellent resistance to oxidation, freshwater, seawater, and chlorides
High strength-to-weight ratio, ideal for aerospace applications
Good cold-forming characteristics
Readily weldable using standard titanium welding practices
Stable performance at both low and elevated temperatures
High toughness and ductility retained after annealing
Values represent typical specification limits for commercially pure Grade 3 titanium. Exact values are reported on the Mill Test Certificate (MTC) for each heat.
| Element | Limit / Typical Max |
|---|---|
| Titanium (Ti) | Balance |
| Iron (Fe) | up to 0.30% |
| Oxygen (O) | up to 0.30% |
| Carbon (C) | up to 0.08% |
| Nitrogen (N) | up to 0.05% |
| Hydrogen (H) | up to 0.015% |
Mechanical values are approximate and vary with thickness, product orientation, and annealing practice. Design and acceptance should always refer to the applicable specification and MTC.
